This week we have been counting forwards and backwards to 20. We have been ordering the numbers and using a numberline to help us work out what 1 more or 1 less is.  On Friday your child brought home their number line please use it at home to practise finding 1 more and 1 less.  Immediately being able to say which number comes next, or which number comes before any number is an essential basic skill which supports later Maths work.  A few minutes spent practising this skill each day makes a big difference, maybe in the car or on your way to and from school.  Start with smaller numbers that your child is confident with and then gradually try bigger numbers.  Practsing counting forwards and especially backwards from any number is another great way to practise this skill.  We played two maths games on the top marks website this week, caterpillar sequences and chopper squad, have a go together if you have time (Please be aware that this site does contain adverts and links to other sites.  You may also have to allow flash for the games to work).
